<br />
<br />
Yesterday was Earth Hour.<br />
<br />
Earth Hour is a world wide event in which people show that they care about our planet by turning out their lights for one hour. Even Big Ben in London turned out the lights this year.<br />
<br />
As well as turning off our lights, we don't use anything that uses electricity for the hour.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI2LYcQ5y1JIz_PZzUEPVDDkX-cnF4SuFt7M4XcZ20ILhd-7JloKAAeWLvplPoDjPk6CJ9XovuD7UDIR5b96KgQdZ-x62lQcf4O232tL4he4Lm3bSGtnUJvUd1JsUlpfoishe7tby97NM/s1600/DSCF5073.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI2LYcQ5y1JIz_PZzUEPVDDkX-cnF4SuFt7M4XcZ20ILhd-7JloKAAeWLvplPoDjPk6CJ9XovuD7UDIR5b96KgQdZ-x62lQcf4O232tL4he4Lm3bSGtnUJvUd1JsUlpfoishe7tby97NM/s1600/DSCF5073.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The cats having a disagreement.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
So from 8-30pm til 9-30pm we turned out all our lights, computer, everything. and didn't use anything electrical. It's a good excuse to get the candles out.<br />
<br />
We grabbed our torch, candles, some juice and sat outside at the table under the large tree in our front yard and were able to see a few stars as it was quite cloudy. It had been raining during the day.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEignZRC0a76ZZZd5xWA-AyASkCQYwt8UC55U7mO5xmY_vUwCfKotoSRxgUMfdT7NtzrLeucK-OuyfHh5LEl6pey_rkanMif3_whE-zJAeZ3S9RQs5d0iCvKWrKSDDoUJL_dv901WUeBMls/s1600/DSCF5077.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEignZRC0a76ZZZd5xWA-AyASkCQYwt8UC55U7mO5xmY_vUwCfKotoSRxgUMfdT7NtzrLeucK-OuyfHh5LEl6pey_rkanMif3_whE-zJAeZ3S9RQs5d0iCvKWrKSDDoUJL_dv901WUeBMls/s1600/DSCF5077.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Caught in the torchlight.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
We had fun outside playing spotlight with the cats, exploring around the house, front yard and backyard with the torch and Salem was trying to creep up on me but he failed every time.<br />
<br />
The cats thought it was great that we were outside with them.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjW33GLlawKWRTk7rk_vGyYuZMPeQ8YbQVWO1yi-Ysa1zALoEPI2HfDts5nNC60PwxYVDy2Mc_CS5mM6jmV-OJyb_nd1A6fsnyHmHZlzqzVArN52m6QHqZT8y0KfZvjGX7oYxES8yxAAo/s1600/DSCF5082.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjW33GLlawKWRTk7rk_vGyYuZMPeQ8YbQVWO1yi-Ysa1zALoEPI2HfDts5nNC60PwxYVDy2Mc_CS5mM6jmV-OJyb_nd1A6fsnyHmHZlzqzVArN52m6QHqZT8y0KfZvjGX7oYxES8yxAAo/s1600/DSCF5082.JPG" height="300" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Having scary fun with the candles.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
It looked like we were the only ones in our neighborhood celebrating Earth Hour which was a shame.<br />
This has been a family tradition of ours for years.<br />
<br />
We were having so much fun that we were outside for longer than the hour. We could have stayed out longer but a certain young man needed a hot drink and it was off to bed.<br />

On Saturday, Salem and I put on our 1930's/40's gear on and went into Wellington to spend a couple of hours at the Glory Days Winter Vintage Festival which was held at the James Cabaret.</div>

<br />
<br />
When we arrived we bought our tickets at an old fashioned ticket box and then went inside where there were lots of very interesting stalls set up and by the stage area, it was all set up for the circus with hay bales and tigers and lions.<br />
Heaps of people got into the vintage spirit and dressed to impress, some fabulous dresses, hairstyles and of course, men in suits and hats and even dressed as strong men and circus folk.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Before we encountered the rather creepy wolfman/creature in a cage, we were given our goodie bags which had a copy of the "Glory Days" magazine which we read later on and it really is a great read, and a very cool pack of Hendricks Gin playing cards.<br />
Salem and I then got some skincare samples from the ladies in white lab coats from Tailor Skin Care.<br />
It's really great stuff. <br />

There were more circus acts throughout the morning, this young lady was fantastic with the hula hoops.<br />

<br />
Salem with Constance Craving in between giving his own acrobatic show to the circus folk and a bit of dancing here and there.<br />
Can't beat doing the Charleston. He's pretty good at that.<br />

<br />
<br />
It was a pity we couldn't stay for long, just two hours, as we had to make our way out to Tawa for a dance class. <br />
We had to miss the rest of the entertainment and the wonderful atmosphere.<br />
The folks from Glory Days magazine had done a fantastic job, we can't wait until next year!!!!<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Had to grab a caramel apple before we left.</div>
<div>
We should have bought another or two as they were absolutely delicious.</div>
<div>
I only got to have a very small bit of it while Salem scoffed the lot!!!!</div>

Two Saturday's ago we went into Wellington just for a day's outing with no dance classes to go to.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We went nice and early to make the most of it, the weather wasn't the best though but it wasn't raining.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Our first port of call was the Underground Market at Frank Kitts Park.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We had a look around getting lots of ideas and wishing we had heaps of money.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then we cam upon the Candy Floss Lady.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As we are huge fans of candy floss we had to get one!!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was a lovely blue blueberry flavoured floss which she very kindly sprinkled hundreds and thousand on as we had to wait a little for the machine to warm up. It only took a minute or too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br /></div>
Last weekend just gone, we went back. It was a beautiful sunny day, just right for eating candy floss while walking along the waterfront.<br />
<br />
This time it was pink candy floss and I had to have my own as I am no longer sharing with Salem.<br />
All I can say is "YUM YUM YUM!!!!!!!".<br />

<br />
<br />
A couple of Sundays ago, we went bright and early into Wellington as Salem had a ballet class with the Royal New Zealand Ballet, and because of catching trains and making sure we got in to town with plenty of time to spare in case something goes wrong (which has happened in the past), we had time to visit the farmer's market in Victoria Street.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipb_lRcSc04_006SyVIiTgkp3Njh19H025JLi1VjLwS2S1GJm9Af-41zjS7adRO9v025luW2-JdVMSS8nvcWqR5v-4fw-ipzXxtSt02CSBLK-vzciclDsl5f54JbAz5hCGoaKZUUwTiwQ/s1600/DSCF4533.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipb_lRcSc04_006SyVIiTgkp3Njh19H025JLi1VjLwS2S1GJm9Af-41zjS7adRO9v025luW2-JdVMSS8nvcWqR5v-4fw-ipzXxtSt02CSBLK-vzciclDsl5f54JbAz5hCGoaKZUUwTiwQ/s1600/DSCF4533.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
They have the market every Sunday morning in a large car parking area, Salem couldn't believe his eyes at how much produce was there and all the different types.<br />
He had never been to this market before.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEv8pHEqhGEWe8hTjazEYX6oAaGt3McHGQpzL2uI-QA8_FaigUKC9dVbJPghNtJzuSlZoDSnYeLQs7mNk9SqDwCR9R7eSDF9LnxBb9qAmeKchVx7mqGBbSbUHIUmjW4lun6SJwMDRBASU/s1600/DSCF4534.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEv8pHEqhGEWe8hTjazEYX6oAaGt3McHGQpzL2uI-QA8_FaigUKC9dVbJPghNtJzuSlZoDSnYeLQs7mNk9SqDwCR9R7eSDF9LnxBb9qAmeKchVx7mqGBbSbUHIUmjW4lun6SJwMDRBASU/s1600/DSCF4534.JPG" height="262" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
There was lots of great bargins including three pineapples for $5. It was a real shame we couldn't really buy anything or else we would have had to carry it around in our backpacks all day.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh5C5TXQrGsqbp6LAGlFRy_ccnVryQ8DCjY2M6jokPXhD3KoHSzWXqUW59JmgRZvIktUTlPygqiMgmKT5_u9OXeZzlo2Ytql0tMXD4NdDuVIc3a2MiALBFq1rLAmLgHHOw2jEbNzVkdiY/s1600/DSCF4536.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh5C5TXQrGsqbp6LAGlFRy_ccnVryQ8DCjY2M6jokPXhD3KoHSzWXqUW59JmgRZvIktUTlPygqiMgmKT5_u9OXeZzlo2Ytql0tMXD4NdDuVIc3a2MiALBFq1rLAmLgHHOw2jEbNzVkdiY/s1600/DSCF4536.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Another reason for going to the market was to see a friend of ours who does the fish van, but he wasn't there this time, someone else was. Salem had to check out what was on offer.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaDtgB53VUFiqmu23Aq1sVXvhdRxCUTp6AlQXrSvyqDbWft5257K5dLxF3wkYKQMPpIAwP8jM_5VJltjkrlEzHUzumzYMBR-7pQindjdWMVxdbloIpzlm8E7mMSXmb-6zHc7ZrRrmWpm0/s1600/DSCF4537.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaDtgB53VUFiqmu23Aq1sVXvhdRxCUTp6AlQXrSvyqDbWft5257K5dLxF3wkYKQMPpIAwP8jM_5VJltjkrlEzHUzumzYMBR-7pQindjdWMVxdbloIpzlm8E7mMSXmb-6zHc7ZrRrmWpm0/s1600/DSCF4537.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We found someone selling some beautiful orchids.</div>
<div>
Salem couldn't believe his eyes. </div>
<div>
They were so big (the orchids that is) as Salem grows tiny native orchids and had never seen big "normal" ones before.</div>
<div>
Well, he has but can't remember because they have some at the Begonia House at the Wellington Botanic Gardens.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We will definitely be making another trip into Wellington on a Sunday again to visit this market again!!!!</div>
<div>

<br />
<br />
We had a garage sale on the weekend and to advertise it Salem did some lovely artwork to catch the passing traffics' eye. And it worked very well.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Salem had so many people stop to talk to him about his artwork and the garage sale.<br />
<br />

<br />
Salem's art is still up on the fence, it survived the rain and I have changed the date of the garage sale.<br />

<br />
<br />
I'm continuing my lucky-dip challenge to get through may huge stack of <b><i>Discovering NeedleCraft</i></b> series, it actually looks like I have close to 100 issues, so that is nearly 100 kits to do.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNa9AzxEbQ3xTuF9tslbLJo2xQkPpxIcgQPNulNGAxvLCBxRnZAxR6uihHQGyR5ian0wfCwaPiPLe-IwCN73AtzotK38Ob3L4cPcnIkyoVr-h0cVCloNdO1Yph7kzQXIm0K_Q7bHNROqs/s1600/DSCF3467.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNa9AzxEbQ3xTuF9tslbLJo2xQkPpxIcgQPNulNGAxvLCBxRnZAxR6uihHQGyR5ian0wfCwaPiPLe-IwCN73AtzotK38Ob3L4cPcnIkyoVr-h0cVCloNdO1Yph7kzQXIm0K_Q7bHNROqs/s320/DSCF3467.JPG" width="319" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The first this week is from Issue 2, the <b><i>Baby's Wall Hanging</i></b>. It uses 18 count aida fabric.<br />
I had to cover some rust marks from the needle which was in the kit and added a few of my own touches.<br />
I will have to put a backing on it and actually make it into a 'hanging' soon.<br />
<br />
I don't have any babies in my life, so I made it for Salem as I had never made him one when he was a baby.<br />
He had to wait 13 years!!!!!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-g1IXNHhrhOvUIAN6Aq2JucO4yWyo-9pefY_V4L_f6CjijhZ0q3gJtTSVLoJzk3aL7pHSxxVc1Qoz784JXQw9TsF0ngH6NzCt5UspA4cUAk6z3XaXGYH7HDmx0oN7ZAsYzNlhpVjTiDU/s1600/DSCF3468.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-g1IXNHhrhOvUIAN6Aq2JucO4yWyo-9pefY_V4L_f6CjijhZ0q3gJtTSVLoJzk3aL7pHSxxVc1Qoz784JXQw9TsF0ngH6NzCt5UspA4cUAk6z3XaXGYH7HDmx0oN7ZAsYzNlhpVjTiDU/s320/DSCF3468.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The next one I did was from Issue 86, a gorgeous <i style="font-weight: bold;">Woodland Fox</i>.<br />
It is on 14 count cream aida fabric and was nice and quick to do.<br />
I have to find a nice frame for it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ2gawZMlRri2r0U6Sdpjdu8hD0i1-02qU_Ujc4vmK_ZBzYZkuee83SKxKjIdfFMPmKdLWpl22OL3WLbHADgNlMxp4A9QJ0cSsm7m6iH-GZ5lZsGbyGk3Skme0Lb1tPWAZdab9c4k7pAY/s1600/DSCF3469.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ2gawZMlRri2r0U6Sdpjdu8hD0i1-02qU_Ujc4vmK_ZBzYZkuee83SKxKjIdfFMPmKdLWpl22OL3WLbHADgNlMxp4A9QJ0cSsm7m6iH-GZ5lZsGbyGk3Skme0Lb1tPWAZdab9c4k7pAY/s320/DSCF3469.JPG" width="319" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The colours are lovely and the black outline really makes this little fox come to life.<br />
It says in the magazine that this is part of a set which includes a badger, a squirrel and a fawn.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwLtowCy3q6Jb1VnyezFLU6Eb4a1XzMjN7JTaeI3foAMxmumCxtPoli3qdGXiE972DgQh1l7kHbN0PmVzkpWO0IH084rq3XzTXYRnD4ovBxiqLUL3_QaiFLzKnFhzMA03fBPxWZSN4I_8/s1600/DSCF3470.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwLtowCy3q6Jb1VnyezFLU6Eb4a1XzMjN7JTaeI3foAMxmumCxtPoli3qdGXiE972DgQh1l7kHbN0PmVzkpWO0IH084rq3XzTXYRnD4ovBxiqLUL3_QaiFLzKnFhzMA03fBPxWZSN4I_8/s320/DSCF3470.JPG" width="319" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I will have to wait to see if those ones come up soon in my lucky-dip.<br />
I have now started on a <i><b>Robin Pincushion</b></i>.<br />

<br />
<br />
I was a very lucky gal and was given at least 75 issues of the <b><i>Discovering NeedleCraft</i></b> magazine series from 1993<br />
....... for free!!!!!!!<br />
Each issue has a kit to do so I have decided I am going to do every single one, and so the other day I had a lucky dip and pulled out issue 4.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The pattern</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
The kit was for a cross-stitch jam pot cover with wild blackberries on 27-count evenweave fabric.<br />
It took me an evening to do and looks very lovely but I didn't have a jam jar wide enough for it to go on.<br />
I'll have to look for a jar wide enough at the supermarket with something yummy in it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSMbGnFewbqVZLYCaH8jSRr_mrZcHYJaJwq8GdOykWu6JlaG-Cvj3tDcoH-MmNDiKF2MVOToZbdW87DIVlc6eZPJm9_BW3IsmPbPv0Q9OAaUCuKrl3ppY4UZt7OKZJ0M9ez5DZh4_VMw0/s1600/DSCF3440.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="231" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSMbGnFewbqVZLYCaH8jSRr_mrZcHYJaJwq8GdOykWu6JlaG-Cvj3tDcoH-MmNDiKF2MVOToZbdW87DIVlc6eZPJm9_BW3IsmPbPv0Q9OAaUCuKrl3ppY4UZt7OKZJ0M9ez5DZh4_VMw0/s320/DSCF3440.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The kit came from this magazine.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
So I have started on my next kit which is from issue 2, which is a baby's wall hanging.<br />
I'm doing each kit regardless of what it is.<br />
<br />
Since the kits are so old, some of the needles have gone rusty which isn't very nice when the needles are kept in the fabric. I like it when the needles are in their own wrapper.<br />
But never mind, I can live with a rust mark .....especially when these are free.<br />

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
We don't know if it is a boy or a girl yet, haven't really attempted to find out.<br />
It has been so lovely watching it grow from a tiny wee thing that suddenly appeared in the paddock, to now when he/she is starting to spend more time away from Mum, but still keeping Mum in sight.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Salem loves to feed this little rascal, and always picks some nice juicy long grass.<br />
Mum started wandering off into the next paddock so little one decided to follow, slowly, munching grass on the way.<br />
<br />

<br />
On a walk down Kapiti Road on a beautiful warm sunny day, we happened to spy these wonderful old cars.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Salem was so excited, especially when I said that we should take some photo's of them.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
So out with the camera, keeping my fingers crossed that it would still work, it's been very sick lately making funny noises.<br />

Salem loves older cars especially pre-war and from the 50's. This little truck really impressed him.<br />

<br />
<br />
On Friday we had decided it was about time that we went into Wellington again.<br />
We needed a fix of city hustle and bustle and then our usual wander through the <i><b>Wellington Botanic Gardens</b></i>.<br />
Little did we know it would turn out to be a bit of an adventure.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">One of the tulip beds</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
The tulip beds were devoid of flowers, all except one lone tulip, but growing well in preparation for the <i><b>Spring Tulip Festival</b></i> later on. But there was plenty of magnolias in bloom along with other pretty little flowers and the spring bulbs doing their thing rather early, it is still winter.<br />
<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Relaxing on the grass while Wellington shakes</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
I found myself a nice possie next to the <b><i>Joy Fountain</i></b> on the grass and sat down while Salem went running about. I felt the ground move under me and thought that it was either a small earthquake or a truck or bus going by. I didn't see either. I mentioned it to Salem but he didn't feel anything. He was too busy running around and exploring in the trees.<br />
<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">This was taken just after a large earthquake</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
Soon after heaps of people started walking through the gardens and I thought it must have been the usual after work crowd of people walking home........Little did we know!!!!!<br />
Wellington had been rattled by some rather large earthquakes.<br />
I have written about our adventure on our<b> Ballet Boy NZ blog</b> so check out our story at <a href="http://balletboynz.blogspot.co.nz/2013/08/dancing-on-shaky-ground-and-costume.html">http://balletboynz.blogspot.co.nz/2013/08/dancing-on-shaky-ground-and-costume.html</a>.<br />
We were totally oblivious to the earthquakes and had a really nice afternoon at the gardens.<br />

Both these cars are in working order.<br />
Much more stylish than the modern hybrid and electric cars.<br />

After a long, hot and very dry Summer, Autumn has finally arrived.<br />
The leaves are finally changing colour and falling to the ground.<br />
<br />

And what is more fun than playing in all the leaves.<br />
We couldn't resist when we found this large mass of leaves on our walk home after dance classes.<br />

<br />
The temperature has dropped a lot over the last few days but we still haven't had any rain, just two days in the last week or so that had about 5 to 10 minutes of a very light drizzle.<br />
Nothing to break the drought.....yet......<br />

<br />
It's nice to be able to layer on the clothes and to wrap up warm in one of the many blankets that we have made over the years.<br />
In the evening, when the boys have gone off to bed, I snuggle up on the couch wrapped up in a blanket to watch a bit of telly, with Sugar, our big fat white cat curled up next to me on the blanket and Misty, our clueless black cat purring away sitting on my knee.<br />
What could be better...........<br />

<br />
It was off to <b><i>Kirkcaldie & Stains</i></b> for our traditional visit to see <b><i>Clucky</i></b> the Hen who lays chocolate covered marshmallow Easter eggs.<br />
We visit <i><b>Clucky</b></i> every year, the build up to Easter would just not be the same without her.<br />
<br />

<br />
<b><i>Kircaldie and Stains</i></b> department store has been around since 1863 but of course <i><b>Clucky</b></i> hasn't been around that long. My Nana and Grandad used to take me to visit <i><b>Clucky</b></i> and that was many, many moons ago.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
As you can see from the video above, <i><b>Clucky</b></i> really put's a smile on your face and it's amazing how many adults still come to see <i><b>Clucky</b></i> and put in their 50 cent piece to have an egg laid for them. <br />
I still do..!!!!!<br />

<br />
<br />
After our visit to <b><i>Kirk's</i></b> (Kirkcaldie & Stains) we had a quick visit to the <b><i>botanic gardens</i></b> to see what was in flower now. It's been a little while since we were last there.<br />

<br />
<br />
There were some lovely vibrant colours so I had a bit of a sit down and just enjoyed the sights while Salem went and did some fort building. It keeps him busy for ages.<br />
I had to call out for him when it was time to leave. <br />
We ended up missing our bus anyway so had to wait for the next one.<br />

It's going to be interesting to see what the gardeners are going to plant for the autumn displays.<br />

We found out recently that the cable car station/ terminal is to be demolished to make way for a new "improved" and up-to-date terminal.</div>

We don't like the plans that they have published and like the charm of the station that is already there.</div>

<br />
Salem and I thought we had better go and take some photos of our beloved station before it is gone.<br />
It was a beautiful day and as there was two cruise ships in town, we couldn't actually ride the cable car up the hill as there was a queue of hundreds of tourists down at the Lambton Quay (city) terminal.<br />
So we caught the bus up the hill and then went for a lovely walk through the Botanic Gardens.<br />
<br />

<br />
On our way through the Wellington Botanic Gardens, we encountered some magical beasties.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtg3zbgF14UoYcaMXtk0ClZgPx32mGLyuRfdlkdFN0UxwVLZO2qhN0AHrFLJfwJZer_ACY2-n9FJSrZkzFagbekPYJTjwHJ0_b3PMHTSsFfKArkWtkd_TEbqK2yK1LEa3zeYb7ICvD1JQ/s1600/DSCF2988.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtg3zbgF14UoYcaMXtk0ClZgPx32mGLyuRfdlkdFN0UxwVLZO2qhN0AHrFLJfwJZer_ACY2-n9FJSrZkzFagbekPYJTjwHJ0_b3PMHTSsFfKArkWtkd_TEbqK2yK1LEa3zeYb7ICvD1JQ/s320/DSCF2988.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It was a very nice surprise. The Botanic Gardens have some amazing lighting displays and there was lighting rigged up around the giant bugs.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8VOGFgNMwNdxaWzz4Rqp34QjqKMIt0vcIaBgyGK1qCZCfFesI0g8Zybg-0rsSuwDtXjpNaYY0ZsHQsJPfYOa-Wg7Exk0r6LJ71-TOr99HkMITmUNab5NxUQlkpc3IQPRZoizMf7WAXBs/s1600/DSCF2989.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8VOGFgNMwNdxaWzz4Rqp34QjqKMIt0vcIaBgyGK1qCZCfFesI0g8Zybg-0rsSuwDtXjpNaYY0ZsHQsJPfYOa-Wg7Exk0r6LJ71-TOr99HkMITmUNab5NxUQlkpc3IQPRZoizMf7WAXBs/s320/DSCF2989.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
They must look amazing all lit up at night. It's a pity we can't get to see them at night.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE-skCak4iraoRRSR3TP6kxY4DxNr3Sb0ycF_PAVW5tZwzT-lq9bvjcrvz_NUxL_HinSFEzMmjR1Rze1YkVDX9EX_mZKiIqBswoZNF4CIuaROoQXLScyeZfbCP1m_DIDHDEDIpq_DiMIs/s1600/DSCF2990.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE-skCak4iraoRRSR3TP6kxY4DxNr3Sb0ycF_PAVW5tZwzT-lq9bvjcrvz_NUxL_HinSFEzMmjR1Rze1YkVDX9EX_mZKiIqBswoZNF4CIuaROoQXLScyeZfbCP1m_DIDHDEDIpq_DiMIs/s320/DSCF2990.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
But they look amazing in the sunlight. This is all part of the displays that are put on every summer.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVEYAunyPuIfHiI8gSrOSwC9RbHHQjGtpPKQv_8hvQBJHa0_24-dD7vB1GdtPrS2FHpGFQo3FLX0aDv_AmH1G1p-wTC8_ap5LNpJyoLPobINJ8azrL50mbTplh5SXFn_VzQ1eMXh5u6o4/s1600/DSCF2991.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVEYAunyPuIfHiI8gSrOSwC9RbHHQjGtpPKQv_8hvQBJHa0_24-dD7vB1GdtPrS2FHpGFQo3FLX0aDv_AmH1G1p-wTC8_ap5LNpJyoLPobINJ8azrL50mbTplh5SXFn_VzQ1eMXh5u6o4/s320/DSCF2991.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I wonder what our next summer treat will be??????<br />

<br />
I am finally back and ready to start blogging for another year.<br />
I really needed the break as the holidays have been hectic.<br />
I hope everyone has had a great start to the new year.<br />
<br />
<b><i>Time for a Yarn</i></b> was held for the first time this year on Wednesday morning.<br />
It was good to go along and have a chat and a cup of tea (or two, in my case) and a biscuit (ditto).<br />
I was without my boy this time as he was at his dance schools summer school helping teach the little ones.<br />
The project I took with me this time was a blanket I had just started a few weeks ago.<br />
It is just made with small crocheted squares.<br />
I was inspired by watching "Wartime Farm" and Ruth was making a blanket and I had made a small collection of small squares which I was going to use as bunting but I thought this was a better idea even though I have crocheted many blankets. But I haven't made one this way before.<br />
So I've been making heaps more squares and sewing them together.<br />
It will be a lot bigger for the next get together.<br />

<br />
They were such a laugh, having their little squabbles and there was the occasional amorous male pigeon who didn't have any luck. There were no females that were having a bar of it!!!<br />
<br />

A little sweetie.<br />

<br />
Salem was a little tired so had a bit of a lie-down and chatted to the ducks that were having a laze under the rose bushes.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
I am sure that all the friendly in the gardens were the little ducklings that we saw causing mischief for their parents the last time we were here.<br />
They have all grown up now.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This little duck is being a bit bashful at first.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEakSMM1of8_BS-aqywhFTpeXLY4LFP0rFA3zBpP8hyZ3OiVmBT6mys-rc0Dn8gQ5-xahVcAp0MudjOKHXbg8TnjYz-JS8vIc8qAnS68i2sZHnzKuFYj54F2Hoo4x7pNhJUrv5e-s5RoU/s1600/DSCF2645.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEakSMM1of8_BS-aqywhFTpeXLY4LFP0rFA3zBpP8hyZ3OiVmBT6mys-rc0Dn8gQ5-xahVcAp0MudjOKHXbg8TnjYz-JS8vIc8qAnS68i2sZHnzKuFYj54F2Hoo4x7pNhJUrv5e-s5RoU/s320/DSCF2645.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
Then it was time for a big stretch.<br />
They can make themselves quite long too.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
She's all relaxed now after that.<br />
She stayed with us the whole time until we left.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
This is another of our little friends.<br />
This gorgeous fat pigeon also stayed with us even though there were whole flocks of pigeons that flew en mass barely missing us as we were on their flight path.<br />
It was all very exciting and we really had to duck down so that we weren't hit by a feathered missile.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi45CPXY325exowGfyHQPKRULgJH6Y8-WhPv60yq3reLkTbKhxakAz2eJx_fv-ZFMmLOp1RIN3o4AwMCx4iP5VL3zCeW8jovVoXcIdPjoLcu96ErJ38g94X8hzMeWasr3ip4-Kg9iCvhds/s1600/DSCF2623.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="319" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi45CPXY325exowGfyHQPKRULgJH6Y8-WhPv60yq3reLkTbKhxakAz2eJx_fv-ZFMmLOp1RIN3o4AwMCx4iP5VL3zCeW8jovVoXcIdPjoLcu96ErJ38g94X8hzMeWasr3ip4-Kg9iCvhds/s320/DSCF2623.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Only a few of the ducks had had enough of lazing in the sun and took to the pond in the middle of the rose gardens and had a leisurely paddle in the water.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-aXRDXOjVlzqJpmzodFPMCHGnrNC3AOu87SyOrbRAl0DnQuwt61CqXqiaZGa9B3s9fHjciJnWpGYi0ATrmlm_Ll0iWkYx3au3w5us56-uRwajgqHAYwaOpSCY3NpxWFJyfsFPueXYl2E/s1600/DSCF2624.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-aXRDXOjVlzqJpmzodFPMCHGnrNC3AOu87SyOrbRAl0DnQuwt61CqXqiaZGa9B3s9fHjciJnWpGYi0ATrmlm_Ll0iWkYx3au3w5us56-uRwajgqHAYwaOpSCY3NpxWFJyfsFPueXYl2E/s320/DSCF2624.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It was a bit of a low tide in the fountain so they really needed to top up the water.<br />
Luckily the ramp was still there for the ducks to wander out of the water.<br />
They didn't have to strain themselves by flying out, it really was a lazy sunny day.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoqIxkOvwvqK3hwUlDUWNQ5YXamx3G_iouWPtsv8zC7w2O0_KlShV4k3U1Jf6bAI57GIW0S6LMGiMwcBz8zNqgTjBwmbrSST2Lbb2_ya-ZlsKX7eYjvImYhChngfqEyL17bCgvbt_FJq4/s1600/DSCF2634.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoqIxkOvwvqK3hwUlDUWNQ5YXamx3G_iouWPtsv8zC7w2O0_KlShV4k3U1Jf6bAI57GIW0S6LMGiMwcBz8zNqgTjBwmbrSST2Lbb2_ya-ZlsKX7eYjvImYhChngfqEyL17bCgvbt_FJq4/s320/DSCF2634.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I think that the pigeons were a bit more energetic than the ducks today.<br />
The pigeons were checking out the rose beds for insects to eat.<br />
The ducks just stayed in one place, all comfortable in the rose beds and just ate the leaves of the rose bushes that were in reach.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhJAkSPnFYFUhX-X5KeIhytqrAXNV9XThPJes7cfg8AENIIf2e4o_8qGkIsC68GbhN2IYJDoThQXYVnpHMF4OKC7A_SD8wyXw1nOqGqxsuWZxEmKd3UBexhBguh5Zr6ix6wAk_RPJaVIY/s1600/DSCF2635.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhJAkSPnFYFUhX-X5KeIhytqrAXNV9XThPJes7cfg8AENIIf2e4o_8qGkIsC68GbhN2IYJDoThQXYVnpHMF4OKC7A_SD8wyXw1nOqGqxsuWZxEmKd3UBexhBguh5Zr6ix6wAk_RPJaVIY/s320/DSCF2635.JPG" width="319" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
These pigeons are definitely healthier looking than the ones in the inner city.<br />
Lots of fresh plants and insects.<br />
Not scraps and junk food like their inner city cousins.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYsI7f10ekIALsSRN31KTuaVAWAYBAwWD9GmjTjHHgguAimZb8DVXadjV97vr5aAXzV-q4m1Wg8EtjnF95-p2MXhYn83JEiUK4-hh-TXY1yc9hwRDdWzbnzrcG6WoxE7DQuVOWB6NC6mo/s1600/DSCF2638.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYsI7f10ekIALsSRN31KTuaVAWAYBAwWD9GmjTjHHgguAimZb8DVXadjV97vr5aAXzV-q4m1Wg8EtjnF95-p2MXhYn83JEiUK4-hh-TXY1yc9hwRDdWzbnzrcG6WoxE7DQuVOWB6NC6mo/s320/DSCF2638.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I would definitely prefer to live here than at the railway station or on the sides of buildings etc.<br />
And people are always bring bread to feed the duck down at the duck pond.<br />
The ducks are so over fed that there is always more than enough food spare for the pigeons and sparrows.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
You must excuse my rattling on......<br />
It was so lovely sitting in the sun with such friendly company, the best way to spend a sunny spring day.<br />
It really makes you relax and lets your mind wander..........<br />

<br />
As promised, here are some pics of the most gorgeous display of roses I have ever seen.<br />
The sheer amount of blooms was amazing.<br />
I only managed to photograph a small amount, not even near a quarter of the roses that were there.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcu-lj4S83JXQIEQN2WRAZ5Kwi-uKHC8A8v05A_hafy-ylyh1o4FDXydXsYhW7JwBei55aYDh0AR7QRE5SeAKhsZCLtgmOJCyfo0Xkv62DKTVETBoknk3k41uqT2vORiF8nW2c0hs2RTU/s1600/DSCF2599.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcu-lj4S83JXQIEQN2WRAZ5Kwi-uKHC8A8v05A_hafy-ylyh1o4FDXydXsYhW7JwBei55aYDh0AR7QRE5SeAKhsZCLtgmOJCyfo0Xkv62DKTVETBoknk3k41uqT2vORiF8nW2c0hs2RTU/s320/DSCF2599.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
When approaching the gardens, we got hit with the most delicious and heady perfume.<br />
We knew we were in for a treat.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
It was such a contrast to when we were last here a few weeks before.<br />
It really was a magnificent display.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
There were bus loads of tourists arriving all the time, all with their cameras clicking away.<br />
I tried to get as many photos of the roses as possible but I am afraid I got all "rosed out"!!!<br />
I think I managed to actually look at nearly half the roses on display, it was really a lot to take in.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Salem was taking photos today with his vintage film camera but only managed to get three or four photos of the roses as he ran out of film.<br />
We should have bought more with us.<br />
He used two films that day as it was, but we now now to bring many more.<br />
<br />

<br />
The rose bushes were mostly bare with a very few early blooms adding a small splash of colour here and there.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
Most of the bushes were budding up quite nicely.<br />
It was amazing to think that in a few weeks time they would be in full bloom ready for the Rose Festival.<br />

<br />
Just behind the shop area at <b><i>Old St Paul's</i></b> is the <i><b>Clergy Vestry</b></i>, it's quite hidden away from sight.<br />
But we ventured through the door from the shop and had a lovely surprise.<br />
Christmas trees greeted us in this lovely little area which lead into the <i><b>Vestry</b></i> proper.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Through another open door was more Christmas trees and lots of lovely decorations all with a very vintage feel.<br />
There were decorations and lots of old fashioned games and presents that were all for sale.<br />
Absolutely lovely and it felt very magical in this lovely little room.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
The <i><b>Clergy Vestery</b></i> was built in 1876 and was used by the Dean or Vicar to prepare for the church services.<br />
It is all wood just like the rest of the church and has such a homely and warm feeling to it.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Salem just loved this little room and would love to have it as his own bedroom.<br />
The windows were very cute and let in just the right amount of light.<br />
He imagined himself tucked up in a bed in one corner and looking at all the decorations in this magical little room.<br />

On our last visit to Old St Paul's we were able to have a more leisurely wander around.<br />
It always fills us with awe that a building as beautiful as this is made of such beautiful wood that just glows with warmth.<br />

The organ that is in the church now was purchased in 1977 to replace the original one.<br />
It is made in the classical tradition and it's front is made of heart rimu.<br />
It has 1316 pipes which are divided into 19 different voice ranges.<br />

The Seddon Memorial Pulpit is a memorial to New Zealand's last Premier Richard John Seddon.<br />
New Zealand became the first country to give woman the vote while he was Premier.<br />
The pulpit is a hexagonal shape and it was carved in England.<br />
The wood is oak.<br />
It is so impressive in "real life".<br />

It was made in London and then was gifted to Old St Paul's in 1881.<br />
It was gifted in the memory of William Barnard Rhodes who was a New Zealand business man, pastoralist and politician . <br />
He was born in England and Died in Wellington on the 11th February 1878.<br />
He was one of the richest people in New Zealand at that time.<br />

<br />
<br />
The Cathedra was presented to Bishop Wallis in 1896 by the congregation.<br />
It is made from rimu and made to a Glastonbury design.<br />
"Cathedra" means seat of a teacher or authority figure.<br />
It is quite small by today's standards, more like a child's chair.<br />
Peoples bottoms are definitely bigger these days :^)<br />

<br />
It was a very full meeting again and it was nice to chat to people we had met last time.<br />
Salem of course was the only male there and the youngest.<br />
He took along his scarf he is in the process of knitting.<br />
It is getting longer and is looking good.<br />
I continued on with my fillet crochet curtain. <br />
It's coming along nicely.<br />
